Description

Chalcomitra amethystina

English: Taken in Swellendam, South Africa, using a Panasonic FZ-5 camera.

Not a very good picture, but this bird is much more shy than the greater double-collared sunbird that usually visits my garden.

In this picture, the bird's distinctive green patch on its head can be seen, but the purple patch on the throat is hidden from view.

It is perched on a local banana-like plant.
