Description
Español: Diagrama esquemático del experimento que James Chadwick utilizó para descubrir el neutrón en 1932. A la izquierda, se utilizó una fuente de polonio para irradiar berilio con partículas alfa, lo que indujo un tipo de radiación sin carga que inicialmente se pensó que eran rayos gamma. Cuando esta radiación incide sobre la cera de parafina, se expulsan protones con unos 5,5 MeV de energía cinética. Los protones se observaron utilizando una pequeña cámara de ionización, llamada contador, que detectaba una señal registrada en un oscilógrafo. Adaptado de J.
