English: Château de Montaigne in Saint-Michel-de-Montaigne, Dordogne, France: a sketch of the 2nd floor of Montaigne’s tower which once contained Montaigne’s library and was the place where he used to write. Montaigne himself describes this room and his use in Essais III, 3, p. 828 Villey.
Please note that this drawing is based on sketches I have made when visiting the château in 1995, but not on an exact measuring. Therefore, the drawing is not completely true to scale and may contain minor errors. Nevertheless the drawing should give a fair impression of Montaigne’s former library, and, above all, allow to study the placement of the individual inscriptions. Key:

Montaigne selbst beschreibt diesen Raum und den Gebrauch, den er davon machte, in Essais III, 3, S. 828 Villey.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass diese Zeichnung auf Handskizzen basiert, die ich 1995 bei einem Besuch des Turms angefertigt habe, und nicht auf einer exakten Vermessung. Daher ist die Zeichnung nicht ganz maßstäblich und kann kleinere Versehen enthalten. Trotzdem sollte sie einen brauchbaren Eindruck von Montaignes ehemaliger Bibliothek vermitteln und v.a. eine räumliche Zuordnung der Inschriften erlauben. Legende:
