Description

 Cedar Breaks is one of those places many drive by on the way to Bryce Canyon.  Our neighbor suggested we stop there and we were glad we did.  It is like a mini Grand Canyon, but much more colorful. 

 The name needs some explanation.  When the Mormon pioneers were coming into the area by wagon train, they ran up against this canyon.  The term for any kind of a ditch, canyon, or other impediment to their progress was called a 'break.' They saw the trees down in the canyon, and mistakenly took them to be cedars, but they are junipers.
The background of this picture is less than clean because a a large forest fire we drove by about 20 miles southwest of Cedar City. The smoke was hanging over the canyon.
