Summary[edit]

Description
Magyar: Cassaneus, Illusztráció a mű 1579-es frankfurti kiadásból

English: Barthelemy de Chasseneux (1480 – 1541), Catalogus Gloriae Mundi, printed by Sigismund Feyerabend, Frankfurt am Main 1579 (1 ed. Lyons 1527) Etching. The exhibited center spread shows the Glories of the plebeians: Agriculture, a goldsmith's work, commerce, architecture, hunting, surgery and "Tympanistria" , the art of drumming, here more likely referring to Martial arts. The illustrations, in typical mannerist style of high quality, have advanced allegorical layers of meaning. The picture of the Hunt can be directly derived from Margarita Philosophica from 1503 and is a veiled tale of hte different methods of Philosophy. The combination of allegorical figures has also in this case alchemistic connotations, while they starting with Ripa 1600 increasingly become part of the emblematic standard repertoire.
