Outlinesof work for the grades in the practice school are arranged frommontlr to month, and the normal school pupils observe their ap-plication in the work with children. Students who completethe course should be able to plan and arrange adequate outlinesof work for use in their own teaching, or to follow intelligentlythe outline of a supervisor. Penmanship. Mr. Doner. Penmanship is taught during both the junior and senior years.One period each week is devoted to practice under the personaldirection of the supervisor, for the purpose of developing aplain, practical style of writing. Students are required to prac-tice at least fifteen minutes a day, and to submit their practicework to the supervisor for inspection, criticism and gradation. In the senioryear the object of the work is to improve the general qualityof the writing and develop speed, so that the students will beable to write automatically a smooth, plain, practical hand.Students will be able to write well if they conscientiously tryto apply the movement in all their written work. Since writingis essentially a co-ordinated movement, it has to be developedthrough patient and persistent practice. The seniors are alsogiven blackboard practice, practice in counting, and in teachinglessons before their own classes. The seniors have ample oppor-tunity to observe the teaching done by the supervisor and theregular teachers in the practice school. During the senior yearthe supervisor outlines a scheme for each grade, so that thestudents will have a knowledge of the theory of teaching theMibject of penman-hip in all the grades in the public school.
