In addition to the usual political topics, the intel-lectual history of the eighteenth century, the commercial, agri-cultural and industrial revolutions, modern imperialism, andthe socialist and humanitarian movements receive adequaterecognition. Map work, note taking, and extensive referencework are required of all taking the course. During the entireyear, also, each member of the class follows in the great news-papers of the world one contemporary movement, and tracesits past history. This course is open only to those who havethe equivalent of a four years high school course. Ancient History—This course covers the earliest histori-cal periods to the breaking up of the Empire of Charlemagne.Oriental History is studied far enough to explain the begin-nings of Greek and Roman History. In the Greek and Romanhistory as well as in the Oriental, emphasis isplaced uponmanners, customs, arts, and religion with reference to show-ing their permanent contributions to civilization. — 38 —
