Four classperiods and five hours of laboratory each week are required.Some good text is taken as a basis, but constant use is madeof government bulletins, farm journals, and other related read-ing matter. PHYSICAL SCIENCE. Physical Geography—This subject is presented under thesub-heads of the earth as a planet, the land, the sea; the at-mosphere, life, and the relation of Physical Geography toother subjects, as Physics, Astronomy, History, Geology, Ag-riculture, Forestry, Botany, etc. Besides the use of a text, there are required readings andreports. Excursions are made and much emphasis is placed onfirst-hand knowledge. There is no other subject that has amore wholesome, broadening effect than Physical Geography. Elementary General Physics—This subject continuesthroughout the year. It consists of the usual divisions:Mechanics of liquids, solids, and gases; Heat, Electriicty, — 32 —

Sound and Light. Numerous class-room demonstrations aregiven, and an enthusiastic interest is maintained. Individuallaboratory work is made a strong feature of the course. Thephenomena of physics are met with on every hand in ourevery day lives, and though often direct and simple, are com-paratively little thought about or understood by people whohave no training in physics. This course is a great aid in theinterpretation of the physical forces about us. The educa-tional value of this study is very great. Recitations four hoursa week; laboratory work two hours a week. Elementary General Chemistry—This course extendsthroughout the school year. It is accompanied by a largeamount of laboratory work, giving the student first handknowledge of materials and chemical reactions upon which thetheoretical work of the class-room is based.
