Queens College Historical SIXTY-TWO years ago, his instituton began its careerunder the name Charlotte Female Institute, in a beau-tiful building which stood as an ornament to the cityfor forty-five years. In 1901, this building gave placeto a much larger one, whose cornerstone bore the title Presby-terian College for Women. Five years ago it became apparentthat the encroachments of a rapidly growing city would makeit impossible for the Trustees to develop the institution furtherwithout changing its location. A beautiful, w^ooded campusof twenty-five acres, overlooking Charlotte from the highestelevation in Myers Park, was at once secured, and five buildingshave been erected thereon, viz.: Administration, Music, Scienceand Art, and two Dormitories. The detailed plan for heat, light, baths, ventilation, and general sanitation are excellent. The Queens Road Boulevard, one hundred and ten feet wide, ornamented with trees, shrubbery, and flowers, circles by theCollege.
