Title
Cast copper alloy late medieval vesica seal matric with ecclesiastical scene
Description
English: Cast copper alloy vesica (pointed oval) shaped medieval ecclesiastical seal matrix, dating to the late 15th/early 16th century (c1450-1520).

The object depicts an elaborate shrine inside which is a standing figure. This figure appears to be a man and may represent a bishop. There is a very faint vertical line on the figures right but it is unclear if this was intended to represent a staff, or possibly a crozier, or if this line is simply a corrosion pattern. Beneath this possible bishop is a smaller kneeling figure in the act of prayer. Around the edge of the seal is an inscription between two beaded lines. The script is in black lettering and is very difficult to read.

The reverse of the object is plain with an integral suspension loop cast towards the top of the object. Both surfaces of the object are badly pitted with only faint traces of the original surface surviving.

The seal measures 55.93mm in length; 34.47mm wide; 3.48mm thick (excluding the suspension loop); 13.68mm thick (including the suspension loop) and weighs 34.3g.
