Cast and pressed copper alloy skirt lifter attachment |
||
Description |
English: Cast and pressed copper alloy skirt lifter attachment in the shape of a butterfly dating from the modern period, i.e. the late 19th or early 20th century. The artefact is in very good condition with the attachment loop and inner sliding mechanism intact. The butterfly wings were made from pressed or stamped thin sheets of copper alloy the they are decorated with an intricate design. The artefacts looks sturdy and is hardly tarnished. The skirt lifter itself, however, is missing. The skirt lifter was a scissors-like device with, instead of blades, two small circular plates, one at each end opposite of the handles. The decive was used to lift the hem of the skirt so it would not get muddy, dusty or dirty. |
