English: Casino Rhodos or, originally Il Grande Albergo delle Rose. Designed by Florestano Di Fausto and Michele Platania for the Venetian construction company SAGAR between 1925 and 1927. They were commissioned by Governo Mario LagoThe construction was undertaken by the company G. SPAINI – M. URBAN. The lavish inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of local authorities and personalities from Italy and Egypt. Grande Albergo delle Rose was the most luxurious hotel in the Eastern Mediterranean and had 160 rooms on four floors, lifts, central heating, an aeration system hot-cold water and telephones. Furniture was supplied by PUCROT, ZANIOL and PALEARI.The style is mixed - combination of Byzantine, Arabian, Ottoman and Venetian and Gothic elements derived from Deco. It was then rebuilt under Governo Cesare Maria de Vecchi Conte di Val Gismon who favoured a more modest and simple line called, “rurale”. |
