Case copper alloy Roman dolphin brooch
Description
English: Fragment of a cast copper alloy Colchester derivative, Polden Hill brooch, c.f. Mackreth 2011, Chapter 3, Part 3. Group 4a or 4b. The spring is missing. There are traces of the claw that would have held the spring in position. The head of the brooch rises up from the wings and tapers down towards the foot, forming the bow of the object. The head and upper part of the bow is decorated with a two, fine, parallel grooves that run from the top of the brooch down to the mid part of the bow. The bow tapers and is broken. The pin and catchplate are missing. The object has a dark green patina and a pitted surface.
