Français : Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) était un cartographe prolifique attaché au ministère français de la Marine. En 1764, il publia Le petit atlas maritime, un ouvrage en cinq volumes contenant 581 cartes. Le Nicaragua et le Costa Rica, représentés sur cette carte provenant du deuxième volume de l'atlas, étaient à l'époque des provinces de la Capitainerie générale du Guatemala, qui faisait partie de l'Empire espagnol. Le côté gauche de l'image montre la page de titre de l'atlas de Bellin. Le Nicaragua et le Costa Rica proclamèrent tous deux leur indépendance de l'Espagne en 1821.
English: Jacques Bellin (1703-72) was a prolific cartographer attached to the French Marine Office. In 1764, he published Le Petit Atlas Maritime (Small maritime atlas), a work in five volumes containing 581 maps. Nicaragua and Costa Rica, shown in this map from the second volume of the atlas, were at the time provinces of the Captaincy General of Guatemala, part of the Spanish Empire. The left side of the image shows the title page of Bellin’s atlas. Nicaragua and Costa Rica both declared independence from Spain in 1821.

Português: Jacques Bellin (1703-1772) foi um prolífico cartógrafo ligado à Marinha Francesa. Em 1764, ele publicou Le Petit Atlas Maritime (Pequeno Atlas Marítimo), uma obra em cinco volumes contendo 581 mapas. Nicarágua e Costa Rica, mostradas neste mapa do segundo volume do Atlas eram, na época, províncias da Capitania Geral da Guatemala, parte do Império Espanhol. O lado esquerdo da imagem mostra a página de títulos do atlas de Bellin. Nicarágua e Costa Rica ambas declararam independência da Espanha em 1821.
