Carte-de-visite photograph of Miles H. Hill. Hill started his career as 1st lieutenant of Company B, the La Grange Light Guards, but replaced the promoted Robert Smith in May 1862. After Hill's younger brother, Joseph, who was a sergeant in the company, was killed at Fredericksburg in December 1862, Miles resigned. Claiming failing health, he returned home in January 1863. |
