a wrongor wrong a write. The scissors—Sarcastic andmalicious; very cutting andever willing to separate. The paste-pot — Persistent,persevering; possesses the fac-ulty of sticking to things. The pen—Enterprising, am-bitious ; ever waits for an op- portunity to make ita mark.6 The waste-basket—Intemperate, aggressive; fre-quently gets full, and is fond of scraps. The writing-table—Diminutive, quiet; can easily becovered, and always remains stationary. The calendar—Contemporaneous, but lazy; always upto date, but frequently takes a month off. The revolving chair—Retrogressive, but philan-thropic; goes backward, but is always ready to do a good turn. PBRRINE LAHBERT. An Annoying Error. IpHAT was a very annoying typographical error thatcrept into the papers the other day, telling how aprominent society man had been held up by highwaymenand robbed of his watch and other vegetables. Theeditor has come out with an explanation that the lastword was not vegetables, but valuables.

There wereno transportation facilities, and Tomlin-son, after having found that he couldnteven hire a horse decided to walk. Hehad accomplished a little more than halfof his journey when he arrived at thebank of a river, where a robust negrooperated a ferry. Dipping into his pockets for the nec-essary change, Tomlinson discovered withconsiderable chagrin that he had left hismoney at the hotel. He hadnt a centwith him. Assuming a bold front, how-ever, he asked, Eph, do you take people across theriver? Well, boss. Ah reckon hit wouldndo me no good ter opehrate dis yeh ferryef Ahdidn. Come, then; take me over. Im in a hurry. Ah ony chahges five cents. Tomlinson again felt in all his pockets, and failing tofind a coin of any kind, said, Very well; that will be all right. I forgot to bringany change with me; but
