Description
Português: O rio São Francisco é um dos mais importantes cursos d'água do Brasil e da América do Sul. O rio passa por cinco estados e 521 municípios, sendo sua nascente geográfica no município de Medeiros e sua nascente histórica na serra da Canastra, no município de São Roque de Minas, centro-oeste de Minas Gerais.[1] Seu percurso atravessa o estado da Bahia, fazendo sua divisa ao norte com Pernambuco, bem como constituindo a divisa natural dos estados de Sergipe e Alagoas e, por fim, deságua no oceano Atlântico, drenando uma área de aproximadamente 641 000 quilômetros quadrados. Seu comprimento medido a partir da nascente histórica é de 2 814 quilômetros, mas chega a 2 863 quilômetros quando medido ao longo do trecho geográfico.
