Summary[edit]

Description
English: Ornamental arch spanning wide street. Arch reads "Canada - Britain's Granary, God save our King and Queen". Town on hill visible in distance.

We are always happy here to place a pin in the world map outside of Ireland, [/photos/beachcomberaustralia/ beachcomberaustralia] identified the location as Whitehall, London and at the same time managed to burn the sausages he was hoping to have for his dinner. This reminds me of a quote from Helena Bonham Carter "Multitasking? I can't even do two things at once. I can't even do one thing at once".

The magnificent arch was erected by the Canadian Government to celebrate the Coronation of King Edward VII, but unfortunately theKing developed appendicitis and the Coronation was postponed. In the meantime the Boer war ended and the hero of the hour, Lord Kitchener returned to Britain. It was decided at short notice to redecorate the arch with the above sentiment, work started on the 9th July and was just completed for Lord Kitchener's return on the 12th July.

Our photograph therefore had to be taken before July 9th, and I would think it fair to say that the Dillon photographer was probably in London in or about the of time of the original coronation date (26th June). With that in mind I am making an executive decision to change the date from Circa 1900 to June 1902 but before 9th July 1902.
