Summary[edit]

Description

Calligraphy from about 1600, written in the Mughal court in India. The calligrapher was a scribe whose name was Abd al-Rahim. He was known as Anbarin Qalam ("the Amber Pen").

The poet was Hafiz, a Persian poet who lived from 1325 to 1389 AD. The verse is probably a Christian one, which refers to the birth of Jesus. It reads:

He is the exalted One. The messenger of the gentle breeze brought me news That the days of tribulation and grief are drawing to an end. Oh, how many lamentations reached the halo of that moon from my heart

When it brought me memories of that cloistered beauty.
