The presence of calcium oxalate crystals in urine microscopy is a common finding and can have various clinical implications. Calcium oxalate crystals are one of the most frequently observed types of crystals in urinary sediment.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Composition: Calcium oxalate crystals are made up of calcium and oxalate ions. They can come in two primary forms: calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) and calcium oxalate dihydrate (COD). These forms can appear differently under a microscope. Appearance-Calcium Oxalate Monohydrate (COM): These crystals are typically seen as colorless, elongated, and pointed structures with sharp edges. They may appear as envelope-shaped or dumbbell-shaped crystals. Calcium Oxalate Dihydrate (COD): COD crystals are usually smaller and have a more square or rectangular shape. They are often described as having a "picket fence" or "envelope" appearance.
