Summary[edit]

Description
English: The sirex wasp is a serious pest in pine plantations in Australia. The females carry a fungus which is deposited in trees when laying their eggs. This fungus, which acts as food for the larvae, and the mucus injected by the wasp, weaken and kill host trees.
