Nederlands: Borstsieraad. Dit borstsieraad wordt door vrouwen en meisjes aan een ketting om de hals gedragen. Vaak dragen zij het op de blote huid onder meestal doorzichtige feestkleding , zodat het sieraad nog te zien is.
Kawari's met gladde randen worden over het algemeen door jongens gedragen en dan vaak paarsgewijze aan één ketting waarbij er een op de borst hangt en de ander op de rug. De kawari is een typisch Makassaars-Boeginees sieraad van zilver of goud en vormt een soort proeve van bekwaamheid in de smeedkunst en filigrainbewerking. Deze voorwerpen kunnen soms rood gebeitst worden, kunnen de vorm hebben van een ronde munt, een ster of een vierhoekige plaat met gladde, gekartelde of gedoornde randen en versierd aan voor- en achterzijde met opgelast filigrain en granuleringen. .
