Description
Nederlands: Repronegatief. Suiker en rijst werden in rotatie verbouwd, omdat de grond, die door de meeste suikerondernemingen gebruikt werd, boerengrond was. Na 1870, toen het Cultuurstelsel in principe afgeschaft werd, konden Europeanen zogeheten woeste gronden voor zeer lange periodes in erfpacht krijgen, zodat er minder beperkingen aan het grondgebruik werden opgelegd. Deze gebieden waren echter lang niet altijd geschikt voor suiker, zodat de meeste ondernemers bevolkingsgronden bleven huren. Die gronden werden vaak met de ploeg of de hak (pacol) bewerkt, maar vlak voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd er ook mechanisch geploegd. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
