Nederlands: De opname is gemaakt tijdens één van de twee verzamelexpedities die het Tropenmuseum in 1970-1971 ondernam ter voorbereiding op de grote tentoonstelling in 1971-1972, getiteld 'Samo. Een Afrikaans Savannevolk in ontwikkeling'. De expedities duurden elk drie maanden en werden uitgevoerd door de heren J.T. Broekhuijse en F.M. Cowan.
Een soortgelijke opname staat ook afgebeeld op en in de catalogus bij de hierboven genoemde tentoonstelling met het bijschrift 'De gierstoogst wordt naar het dorp gedragen' (1971: 15). In deze manden zit volgens de informatie parelgierst (Pennisetum typhoideum). Er wordt van oktober tot en met december geoogst. Het graan wordt met een hak losgeslagen, de kolven van de parelgierst afgebroken en in manden geladen. De vrouwen dragen deze manden naar het dorp waar de gierst in voorraadtorens wordt opgeslagen. |
