Nederlands: Repronegatief. Deze foto is gemaakt tijdens de Siboga Expeditie van 1899-1900.
Hoewel er veel plaatsen in de Molukken waren waar scheepsbouw plaatsvond, hebben vooral de Tanimbar en Kei Eilanden bekendheid verworven als plaatsen waar de bevolking gespecialiseerd was in het maken van boten. In feite exporteerden deze eilanden lokaal gemaakte boten, ondermeer door een maal per jaar met een hele vloot naar Banda en Ambon te varen. Daar werd dan een deel van die vloot gekocht. De prauwen (perahu) van de Kei en Tanimbar Eilanden hadden fraai bewerkte voor- en achterstevens, vaak bestaande uit stevenborden. Op Tanimbar trof men daarnaast ook een stenen boot aan in het centrum van het dorp die een belangrijke rol speelde in rituelen. (P. Boomgaard, 2001). Prauw van Groot-Kei |
