Nederlands: Foto. Het stadje Ambon, gelegen op het eiland Ambon (of Amboina), was hoofdplaats van de Afdeling Ambon en van de Residentie Amboina. Ook de militaire commandant van de Molukken was te Kota Ambon gevestigd. Met ruim 11.000 inwoners in 1920 was het makkelijk de grootste stedelijke vestiging in de Molukken. Veel inheemse inwoners van Kota Ambon waren christenen, maar er waren ook mohammedaanse wijken. De fraaie en ruime baai van Ambon, op de foto voorzien van een ruime sortering grote en kleine vaartuigen, was uiteraard een belangrijke voorwaarde voor het ontstaan van het stadje geweest.
