Description |
Nederlands: Het halssieraad bestaat uit een met twee rijen roze kralen bezet koord waaraan vijf bijna vierkante kralenwerken hangen. Deze kralenwerken hebben eenzelfde patroon van witte en zwarte kralen en zijn aan de onderzijde afgewerkt met grijze en gele kralen. Bij de sluiting zijn aan weerszijden twee rijen groen/witte kralensnoertjes aangebracht. De sluiting zelf wordt gevormd door een lus die over een knoopje aan de andere zijde geslagen dient te worden.
Het halssieraad werd gedragen door Zulu-meisjes die door middel van de verschillende kleuren hun geliefde bepaalde boodschappen konden overbrengen. Voorzichtigheid is geboden bij het 'vertalen' van de boodschappen omdat er geen eenduidige betekenis van de kleuren bestaat, zo zijn er naast culturele ook regionale variaties en kan de betekenis ook per familie varieëren. De kleurstelling van dit sieraad zou echter het volgende kunnen betekenen: "Ik heb je lief" (wit), "maar er zijn moeilijkheden" (zwart) "omdat je geen vee hebt voor de bruidsprijs" (roze = armoede) en "daarom voel ik me slap en ziek" (groen). |
