Nederlands: De halfrond gebogen kralenband werd waarschijnlijk om de hals gedragen. De gebruikte glaskralen zijn sinds einde 19e eeuw bijzonder populair in zuidelijk Afrika. Met name de Zulu, Xhosa en Ndebele maken er overvloedig gebruik van. Zij dragen zoveel kralensieraden dat we ze welhaast als kledingstukken kunnen bestempelen. De kleuren en patronen hebben een symbolische betekenis die per bevolkingsgroep kan wisselen. In het algemeen staat wit voor zuiverheid (der liefde), zwart voor somberheid, ontoegankelijkheid, roze voor armoede en groen voor koelte (der liefde). |
