Nederlands: Foto. Transport tussen de havens van Celebes onderling en de overige havens van de Archipel, in het bijzonder Batavia, vond voor een deel plaats met inheems getuigde en lokaal gebouwde vaartuigen. Qua volume - zij het niet qua aantallen - waren Europees getuigde schepen echter op vele routes belangrijker. Overigens werden ook deze schepen in vele gevallen in de Archipel gebouwd, iets waar de VOC al in de 17e eeuw mee begonnen was. In de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw kwamen daar de stoomschepen bij, zodat een haven aan het einde van de 19e eeuw een hele staalkaart aan scheepstypes kon vertonen. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
