English: Hunters posing with shot deers on a plantation
Nederlands: repronegatief. In het diepste oerwoud zal men niet veel herten aantreffen. Ze hebben er niet veel te zoeken. Herten zijn echte 'cultuurvolgers': in secundair bos (nieuw bos) en langs de grenzen tussen bos en bouwlanden zijn herten in hun element. Helaas zijn herten ook dol op gewassen die door mensen zijn aangeplant, zowel op plantages (jonge rubberplanten) als op dorpsgronden. Daardoor werd er zowel door de Europeanen als de Sumatranen jacht op hen gemaakt. Een deel van het opruimwerk werd echter al door tijgers gedaan, die bij voorkeur herten en wilde zwijnen 'slaan'. Als de mens iets te grondig de herten en wilde zwijnen verdreef, had dat soms tot resultaat dat de tijgers zich aan vee of zelfs aan mensen gingen vergrijpen. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
