Description
Nederlands: Repronegatief. Kerintji was een geïsoleerd gebied, goed verscholen achter bergruggen. Net als in de Bataklanden drong het koloniale bestuur er pas laat (na 1900) door. Het is een gebied met een lange bewoningsgeschiedenis, getuige bijvoorbeeld megalithische sculpturen. Er werd ook al lang natte rijst verbouwd en handel gedreven met de buitenwereld. Het was ook een gebied met een geheimzinnige reputatie en tot in Maleisië, waar hajis uit Kerentji handel kwamen drijven, geloofde men dat de mensen uit dat gebied zich 's nachts in tijgers konden veranderen. Bij het jaarlijkse oogstfeest (kenduri seko) werden vaak trancedansen opgevoerd. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
