Nederlands: Negatief. Het Javaanse schubdier, ook wel geschubde miereneter genoemd, is bekend om zijn gewoonte om zich bij dreigend gevaar op te rollen (zie foto in Kopstein's Zoologische Tropenreise). Het is een bijzonder wendbaar dier, gemiddeld nog geen meter lang, dat zowel in bomen als op en in de grond zijn voedsel (mieren, termieten, waaronder de beruchte, allesverslindende rayap) zoekt en weinig natuurlijke vijanden heeft. Ook in gebieden waar veel bos gekapt is kan het behoorlijk overleven. Hoewel niet schaars, kreeg men het dier overigens zelden te zien omdat het alleen 's nachts tevoorschijn kwam. Vooral Chinezen maakten jacht op het dier, omdat ze het vlees als lekkernij beschouwden en van de schubben obat (geneesmiddel) maakten. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
