| Description |
Nederlands: Negatief. In de 19e eeuw was Mario ri Awa een rijkje dat leenplichtig was aan het vorstendom Soppeng, gelegen ten zuiden van het meer van Tempe en grenzend aan het rijkje Tanette. In de 20e eeuw was het een district geworden van het toen zelfbesturende landschap Soppeng. De foto toont het dochtertje van de Datu, herkenbaar aan haar vele sieraden, waarmee haar vader zijn macht, rijkdom en aanzien moest laten zien. Sieraden waren ook een soort spaarpot; in slechte tijden kon men ze verkopen. Vaak waren het overigens erfstukken die men niet gauw zou verkopen. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
