Description |
English: Copper alloy vessel mount. Cast zoomorphic mount representing a miniature bird with a hemispherical pit in its base for attachment. A long neck projects at an angle from an expanded body on which a pair of folded wings are depicted; the head is lost. The body tapers towards the tail, which was probably not separately represented. The feathers of the upper body and neck are depicted as a series of deeply incised angled parallel grooves which are carried all around the object. A similar convention represents the wings, with similar cuts arranged diagonally relative to those on the rest of the body. Suggested date: Roman, 43-410
