Object history
Français : Le château représente la Porte du Valais, porte fortifiée située à la Madeleine non loin de Châtelard-Frontière. Elle permettait de fermer la frontière en cas de troubles ou d'épidémies. La population de la commune y montait la garde. Cette porte a été détruite en 1888, lorsque le canton a élargi la route des diligences reliant Chamonix à Martigny. Seuls subsistent quelques vestiges d'un mur. Les flèches représentent le martyr de Saint-Sébastien (3e siècle), choisi comme patron de la paroisse lors de sa création en 1649. Saint-Sébastien, capitaine de l’armée romaine, fut roué de coups et jeté dans les égouts de Rome à cause de sa foi chrétienne. Recueilli et soigné, son corps sera finalement criblé de flèches. Lors de la constitution de la paroisse, Saint-Sébastien était invoqué pour se prémunir de la peste.
