2005 European floods - Brienz, Switzerland

Summary[edit]

Description
English: In 2005, devastating floods hit Switzerland and other European countries. On August 22/23, 2005 an extreme three-day rainstorm saturated the flanks of the mountains in this region, causing numerous landslides and mudflows. In Brienz, the Glyssibach stream became massively engorged with mud and debris, and burst its banks and swept through the village. Homes and infrastructure were severely damaged or destroyed, two persons lost their lives and about twentyfive families became homeless as a result of the disaster.
