th long sloping roofs, small windows and pillareddoorways give an aspect of comfort to the place. For the en-tertainment of summer visitors as well as for the year aroundresidents, Mattapoisett has built a very pretty Casino. Inthe morning and again in the evening this is the favoritegathering place of visitors and villagers during the summer-time. Dances at the Casino are pleasant events of theseason, and many find pleasure in the tennis matches. Thegolf links at the reservation are splendidly maintained. Approach to the harbor lies between long points of land which stretch out their guarding arms on each side. One is Neds Point which has a lighthouse, and the other is called The Neck, for short. The Indians named it Autassawa- muck Neck. Under sunny or cloudy skies or by moonlight the harbor is always beautiful. Fresh southwest breezes temper the heat of the midsummer day. Here are grand opportunities for bathing, boating and fishing, and youll find plenty of shellfish on the shore.

There is a smooth, sand beach for public bathing. Out inthe harbor are the yachts, their white sails glistening in thesun. Every aspect of the summer life here is alluring, Canoeing enthusiasts will delight in the opportunity forthe enjoyment of this sport which the Mattapoiset riveraffords. This pretty stream, twelve miles long, flows fromSnippatuit Pond in the town of Rochester. It was the coursetaken by the Indians to the seashore where they made theirclambakes. Where the river begins to widen is a romantic spotknown as Lovers Bridge. This is a rustic log footway whichwas the trysting place for an Indian maiden and her lover. If you tire of the sea—does anybody ever tire of the sea? —go ramble along the country roads. The perfume of thesweet fern and the odorous pines will greet your nostrils andwild cherry trees will afford grateful shade. Take a strolldown the Neck road and you will get a fine view of the villiage and the curving shore line dotted with villas, with the gleam-
