Summary

[edit]
Description
English:
South 5th Street, including Buty building (on the far left) in 1908
The Buty Building/Idaho Hotel was built in 1901 by saloon keeper and real estate developer Frank Buty; It was one of the earliest brick buildings in the International district. Designed by James Stephen, it originally featured a corner turret, which was removed during a 1910 remodel, credited to Stephen and his son (who had joined him to form the firm Stephen & Stephen), which included the addition of the taller rear portion of the building. It was occupied early on by the Idaho Hotel, named after Buty's Idaho Saloon.
