TT7HESE magnificent New Giant- dlfe Flowered Pansies, when first introduced, were accurately shown by a beautiful colored plate in our Catalogue for 1888 Neither the plate nor the Pansies have since been equaled by any of the new strains so widely advertised. The individual flowers frequently measure tiro and a half to four inches across ; Igjy' of perfect form, circular shape, they are also of unusual substance. In colors they embrace the distinct named below. The plants are also remarkable (in contrast with most flowered Pansies) for their compact, growth and their free-flowering character. The Defiance Pansies produce flowers types quite Giant- bushy largest size, perfect form, and of the richest colors. Finest mixed, per pkt. 15 cts.; 4 pkts. for 50 cts. The following separate varieties of Burpee's DEFIANCE Pansies are each 15 cts. per pkt.; four pkts. for 50 1. Giant Auricula.—Large flowers of rare shades. 2. Giant Royal Purple.—Flowers of unusual size; deep, rich, royal purple in color. 3. Giant Pure Gold.—Extremely showy ; magnificent, hright golden-yellow flowers with black face. 4. Giant Fancy Striped. — Enormous flowers, bril- liantly flamed and striped, in many colors. 5. Giant Emperor William.—Lovely ultramarine blue, with distinct dark-blue eye. 6. Giant Beaconsfield.—Extra large flowers, of deep violet, shading off at the top to a white hue. cts., or any ten pkts. for $1.00. 7. Giant Black.—Doubled in size from the old Faust. 8. Giant Spotted White.—Giant pure white Bowers, with deep violet spots on each of the lower j>etals. 9. GIANT FANCY Three Spotted.—The ground od- ors are of all shades, and the three lower petals are each distinctly marked with a la roe blotch. 10. GIANT FANCY Five Spotted.—Each petal has a large, distinct blotch, after the manner of the Cassia's Giant Odier, but greatly improved in form and size. 11. Giant Show.—This class embraces the best "self" or solid colors,—all gigantic flowers. g^^The entire collection of twelve packets (including Mixed) for $1.25."^; THE PRIZE PANSIES. Our offer in The Farm Axnuat. for 1895 of cash prizes for the largest pressed flowers of DEFIANCE Vansiks mailed to us before September 15th brought forth a most interesting competition. The first prize of $25.00 was won by Mrs. Elmika Jknkins, Temple. Maine, with a flower which measured three inches in diameter. The other prizes were won by customers in Maine, Minnesota, and Montana, with flowers measuring fro'm tiro and fire-eighths to tiro and seven- eighths inches across. The flowers were all of fine, circular form, and were eertainlv of large size, considering thai then it ere grown during the heat of summer. As every lover of Pansies soon learns, flowers of the very largest size can only be had in the cool months of spring. MdP Printed instructions, " How to Grow trie Largest and Finest Pansies," will be sent, FREE, with the seed, when so requested."®*
