W. ATLEE BURPEE & CO., PHILADELPHIA. Biappee's &m¥fi Bern Qmumhew, From all parts of the United States we are receiving letters of the strongest praise of this splendid variety, all uniting to sustain our claim that The Giant Pera is ^Ae finest cucumber for table use ever introduced—surpassing all others in beauty and delicious flavor. The \dnes are very vigorous in growth, with dark green, luxuriant foliage. It is a most prolific variety, our field of them being the most thickly covered of any Long Cucumbers we have ever grown. The cu- cumbers are set early, near the hill, and very close together. The illustration given here- with was accurately engraved from two speci- mens, of average size, that grew only tn'O inches apart,—one of these measured eighteen inches and the other seventeen inches in length. Their round circumference was wyi and loy^ inches, respectively. As shown in the illustration, the cucumbers uniformly grow ver\' smooth and straight; the skin is a beau- tiful medium green, perfectly smooth, free from spines, and retains its clear green color until nearly ripe, when it becomes of a leathery-brown color. They are very thick through, perfectly round, full at the blossom end, and of equal diameter throughout, ex- cept that they taper a little at the stem end. The green cucumbers are fit to eat at any stage, the flesh is entirely white, very clear, peculiarly crisp, tender and brittle, with very fe-iV seeds, and free from the obnoxious " green cucumber taste." The seed cavity is remark- ably small, and the seeds are so slow to foim that even large cucumbers, twelve to fifteen inches in length and three inches in diameter, are still equally as firm and crisp as smaller specimens, the seeds being yet almost un- formed. A mature Giant Pera eighteen to twenty-two inches long will hardly give as much seed as a small, short green cucumber. Our cash prize in l8S8 for the largest and lest Giant Pera Cucumber was won by Mr, "Tbeo. Southard, of Madison Station, Alabama, who sent us a perfect specimen, which measured 22 inches long, 14 inches in circumference, and weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz. Other customers sent specimens nearly as large. Per pkt. 15 cts,; per oz. 25 cts.; X ^ 75 cts ; per 32.50, postpaid. J;@°= Beware of seed offered at a low price, as the True Giant Pera grown from selected stock produces very little seed, and must al- ways be high in price.

(9lAMTPE^(!ueUMBiR G. R. PuRTEE, Muncie. Kansas, writes :—The bill of seeds I purchased of vou last year were all first-class. The Turner Hybrid Tomato was quite a curiosity to my neighbors and all who saw them. 1 hey are un- doubtedly the best Tomato I ever saw and cannot be praised too highly. The Giant Pera Cucumber was the finest I ever raised. I gathered some specimens that were 23 inches long and 10 inches in circumfert rce. and weighed three pounds. They were the biM I ever tasted. J, McDonald Lenox, Mass., writes :—I have been planting your seeds for several years, and can say that ) like them better than any I ever used. The Giant ^ Pera Cucumber was admired by all who saw them. I ir; raised plenty that were 18 inches long. Ji* Ezra Wetherell, Union, Conn., writes:—! was -?<5' well pleased with the seeds procured of you last year. .c§# I raised one Short Stem Drumhead Cabbage that weighed a trifle over 20 pounds, and several Purple 1 op Ruta Bagas that weighed 12 and 15 pounds. I secured the special premium at our County Fair for the best collection of garden produce.
