Summary
[edit]DescriptionBurnet rose (Rosa pimpinellifolia) - geograph.org.uk - 846636.jpg |
English: Burnet rose (Rosa pimpinellifolia) The flowers of this prostrate variety of wild rose are a lovely sight gleaming almost luminously amongst the windswept heather. It also has a sweet scent, described as a mixture of 'honey, jasmine and clotted cream'. It is a plant of the north and west, especially the coastal zone, and produces black hips (berries) later in the year. Its Pembrokeshire name, according to Grigson, is Burrow rose, burrows being sand-dunes. |
