For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Lotze, Kartoffeldämpfer mit Abdampf Zentralbild Biscan 2 Motive 6.12.1954 Kartoffeldämpfen mit dem Abdampf einer Wäscherei. Auf Anregung der VdgB (BHB) haben die Kollegen der Dampfwäscherei Lotze in Magdeburg eine Einrichtung zum Dämpfen von Kartoffeln geschaffen. Die Kartoffeln werden dabei gleich auf dem Fuhrwerk "gar gekocht" und brauchen nicht abgeladen zu werden. Die Heizer der Dampfwäscherei haben eine langes Rohr mit einer Spitze und zahlreichen kleinen Bohrungen versehen und schieben es einfach auf den Boden des beladenen Fuhrwerkes. Die Kartoffeln werden dann mit nassen Säcken und Brettern abgedeckt und unter Dampf gesetzt. In zwei Stunden sind sie gar und können zum Silo gefahren werden. Durch diese Einrichtung wird den Bauern ein grosser Dienst erwiesen, da nicht alle Bauern eigene Dämpfer besitzen und die genossenschaftlichen Dämpfanlagen jetzt in der Hauptsaison überlastet sind. UBz: Heizer Walter Knopf (links) hat das Dampfrohr in eine Kartoffelfuhre des werktätigen Bauern Horst Ruby (rechts) aus Pechau, Kreis Schönebeek, geschoben und lässt den Abdampf ausströmen.
