For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Theodor Oberländer

de:Theodor Oberländer, CDU Bundestagsabgeordneter, Vorsitzender des Landesverbandes "Oder-Neiße" der CDU, von 1953 bis 1960 "Vertriebenenminister". Er wurde in einem öffentlichen Prozess vor dem Obersten Gericht der DDR im Jahre 1960 wegen Kriegsverbrechen und Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit in Abwesenheit zu lebenslangem Zuchthaus verurteilt. Oberländer gehörte zu den Initiatoren und Organisatoren des fingierten Überfalls 1939 auf den Sender Gleiwitz. In Lwow wurden von seinem Sonderbataillon "Nachtigall" schätzungsweise 3000 bis 5000 Menschen ermordet. Auch in anderen Städten wurden von dieser Truppe furchtbare Massaker angerichtet. 4.3.1952
