For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Magdeburg, Hafen, Zollhafen, Wrack Illus Biscan 6.7.1951 Im Bereich des Wasserstrassenamtes Magdeburg wird das letzte Wrack (das 262te) gehoben. Im Bereich des Wasserstrassenamtes Magdeburg lagen 262 Wracks auf dem Grund der Elbe. In diesen Tagen wird das letzte Wrack gehoben, ein ehemaliger Kettendampfer, der bei dem anglo-amerikanischen Großangriff auf Magdeburg durch Bomben versenkt wurde. Mit Beendigung dieser Arbeit, die noch etwa 10 Tage dauert, ist die Elbe bei Magdeburg wieder frei von gesunkenen Schiffen und Trümmern, die die Schiffahrt gefährdeten. Die gehobenen Schiffe werden je nach ihrem Zustand wieder instandgesetzt oder verschrottet. UBz: Das letzte Wrack. Blick in einen Arm des Zollhafens. Bei niedrigem Wasserstand ist der ehemalige Kettendampfer (links) deutlich zu sehen. Seit Einstellung der Kettenschiffahrt diente der ehemaliger Dampfer als Kohlengreifer. Das Wrack kann nur noch verschrottet werden.
