For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. Aufnahme vor 1945 Breslau, wahrscheinlich um 900 von einem Böhmenherzog gegründet, erhielt 1261 Magdeburger Stadtrecht, war Hansestadt, war zeitweilig böhmisch, habsburgisch und kam 1742 an Preußen. Hier residierte seit dem Jahr 1000 ein Bischof, seit 1930 ein Erzbischof für ganz Ostdeutschland. Berühmte Universität und Technische Hochschule. Seit dem 19. Jahrhundert enorme wirtschaftliche Entwicklung und bedeutende Industrie (Oderhafen), wichtigster Warenaustauschplatz zwischen Deutschland und dem slawischen Osten. Landeshauptstadt Schlesiens. |

Landeshauptstadt Schlesiens. 1940: 630 000 Einwohner; heute unter polnischer Verwaltung etwa 3780 000. Im Bild: Der Neumarkt mit dem Neptun-Brunnen ("Gabeljürge" genannt). Hier waren die berühmten alte Bierlokale, hier fand der Kindermarkt und der Topfmarkt statt. Breslau wurdew durch Krieg (Festung) schwer zerstört, ist heute unter polnischer Verwaltung aber auch noch wenig (nur in Industrie- und historischen Teilen) aufgebaut. Die Deutschen wurden vertrieben. |
