â 6 â mero scarso (2-3), sta addossato, in corrispondenza della faccia superiore od inferiore (e in immediata vicinanza del punto di impianto dell'organo all'asse) una sqnamuccia triangolare inner- vata talora da un fascio rudimentale, ma per lo piti senza nervi, la quale spesso è estremamente atrofica. Molte volte però cade precocemente e talora neppure formasi. Neil' A. albus pivi squa- muccie si saldano assieme per formare un collaretto alla base di un ciuftb di cladodi. Tale squamuccia manca invece il piìi delle volte a ridosso dei vari rami, siano fiorali che vegetativi, (tìg. IV) non potendosi ad essa omologare i protìlli sopra descritti inseriti alla base del fascio cladodico-rameale. Se si considerano le squamuccie come appendici dei così detti cladodi si potrebbero ritenere questi come omologhi alla squama colla sovrapposta spina dei turioni giovani e ai profilli sopra ac-

Fig. IV. â Costituzione di un asse in corrispondenza di una squama fornita di spina. Air ascella della squama spinosa nasce un ramo secondario che in alio dà origine a nuove squame portanti all' ascella rami e cladodi giovani. Alla base del ramo secondario si incon- trano due protilli costituiti da un punteruolo mediano inserito fra due appendici stipulari- formi. Apparentemente all'ascella dei profilli, ma in realtà pure alla base del ramo secondario, nascono due cladodi che all' ascella portano una squamuccia. 11 cladodio è 1' omologo della spina, la squamuccia 1' omologo della squama dei turioni giovani.
