If a teacher holds a second grade certificate and has taughtthereon successfully for two years, he may renew it by attendinga Normal school for six weeks and receiving credit in at leasttwo subjects. If a teacher holds a second grade certificate, and has taughtthereon successfully for eight months, he can get a first gradecertificate by passing an examination in English literature, prin-ciples of teaching, algebra, physics or botany, and medieval andmodern or English history, provided he has attended a Normal 24 school for six weeks and has received credit in at least two sub-jects. A first grade certificate may be renewed once by the countysuperintendent provided the holder has taught successfully fora period of three (3) years and has done one-half (^) yearsprofessional work in a professional school, and received creditsin such work.
