Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Buffalo Transportation Pierce-Arrow Museum, 263 Michigan Avenue at Seneca Street, Buffalo, New York, as seen in July 2021. Operated by James Sandoro, a former curator of exhibits at the Buffalo History Museum and a lifelong collector of historic artifacts, the Buffalo Transportation Pierce-Arrow Museum was originally contained within a nondescript single-story cinder-block warehouse (the portion at far right, facing Michigan Avenue), but 2012 saw the inauguration of a lavish addition to the building (the rest of what's in the photograph) as well as the renovation of the existing portion into a coherent whole whose design is an ingenious modernized take on the "stripped Classical" architecture that was popular in industrial buildings in the 1910s and '20s, roughly contemporaneous with the antique cars and automotive memorabilia (especially locally-produced Pierce-Arrows) housed inside. The museum's pièce de résistance debuted in the complex's newer annex in June 2014: Buffalo's seventh and newest Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building, a filling station constructed according to an original 1927 blueprint which Wright intended for the corner of Michigan Avenue and Cherry Street a short distance north of here.
