| Description |
English: Franz Josef Bridge over the Danube River in Budapest, in a 1911 postcard view. The bridge was completed in 1896. It was the third bridge over the Danube in Budapest, after Chain Bridge (1849) and Margaret Bridge (1876). It was renamed Liberty Bridge when it was rebuilt after World War II.
The photo is looking from the Buda (west) side of the Danube, southeast toward the more modern Pest side. Note the steam tugboat in the river. Our river cruise ship in 2002 docked on the far side of the river, just beyond Liberty Bridge. The postcard is written in German to A. T. Nelson in Boise, Idaho on a business matter. |
