English: Mask for the Idangani Society, Akish
Description
English: Fiber mask; Angola. Headdress construction composed of a cap in an inverted basket form with a very finely hand-knotted net-like textile stitched to rim of base in front. Basket unit has 3 vertical extensions rising from crown, central one having a cylindrical bulge at center. Frontal veil terminates in triangular form at base. Has eye holes and long strands of plaited fiber coils attached around perimeter. Colors; white, black, brown. CONDITION: Extrememely fragile. Major tear in center of facial netting. Disintegration of fiber coils around perimeter, many of which are frayed, broken or missing. See E. Pearlstein Cons. Report.
